Real Madrid vs Eintracht Frankfurt LIVE! Uefa Super Cup

Real Madrid vs Eintracht Frankfurt LIVE! Uefa Super Cup

Real Madrid and Eintract Frankfurt tonight meet in Finland for the traditional curtain-raiser for the new European season. As ever, it’s the Champions League winners taking on their Europa League counterparts, with the German side in the one-off game for the first time in their history.

It’s a different story for Madrid, who are vying for their fifth success to match the record number of wins held by both Barcelona and AC Milan. Antonio Rudiger and Aurélien Tchouameni could get some minutes off the bench, with Carlo Ancelotti taking a full squad to Helsinki.

Eintracht last season won the Europa League club against the odds and tonight is the same story, and their task has been made harder with the news that influential left-back Filip Kostic is closing in on a move to Juventus so is no longer in contention to play. Helsinki party

Fans have flocked to Finland for tonight’s game.

The Helsinki Olympic Stadium has a capacity of 36,200, so a little smaller than what the La Liga giants are used to, but it is a sell out tonight.

Same XI as UCl final

So, as predicted, Real Madrid go with the same line-up which won them the Champions League, and the reason they face Eintracht tonight.

They have gone super early with their XI, so it might be a little while until we see how their opponents look.

Past meetings

Just the one, but it was a cracker.

Real Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt met way back in 1960 in the fifth-ever European Cup final at Hampden Park in Glasgow.

It was a 10-goal thriller which Madrid won 7-3 as Alfredo Di Stefano scored a hat-trick.

Score prediction

Madrid will fancy their chances against a team who finished 11th in Bundesliga last season and are fresh from a humiliating 6-1 home loss to Bayern Munich in the first game of the new campaign.

Carlo Ancelotti will use the game to get more minutes under his players’ belts with their La Liga opener four days later away at Almeria. Frankfurt can be forgiven for having one eye on a trip to Hertha three days later.

Madrid to win 3-0.
